Dear Mr. Powell,

The engraved stone is in the collection of the Derby Historical Society. We shall bring a digital camera tomorrow and get a photograph of it to you shortly.

I have often written in the past inquiring as to the disposition (and if a picture might be available!)of the ENGRAVED STONE WITH A RIFLE AND ARROW AND INITIALS ON IT which I found once in the Naugatuck Valley and donated to the Society, nicely framed in wood frame, before I left that region permanently (now resident in Florida).

So I shall try once again here....!???

Thank you!

CAPTION
"Tabular slab of micaceous schist measuring about 3X1X.5 ft., found vicinity of Colonial cellarhole at Derby, CT and bearing incised marks as English-letter initials: "C.Mc" and "L.W." with bottom line date of "May 31, 08". In central portion is a clearly depicted outline of a rifle, with an arrow and arrowhead oriented in line with the rifle barrel and just ahead of it. The context suggests a Settler/Indian "event" of some kind - perhaps as early as 1708, but most likely certainly no later than 1808 at this spot." (...B.W. Powell)
