THANKS DUE many who offered encouragement: "Salty"" who read several
early drafts; Bill Craig, rock climber and wordsmith who went over copy as he scales
cliffs: an inch at a time; my late first wife, Jean, for pretending to like frogs' legs;
my second wife Millie for listening to twice-told tales; my son, Travis, and daughter, Candy, who played
the role of squealers long ago whenever the "...fox he chewed on the bones O-o-o-h...;
and to family and friends of long ago, who all came by degrees to use George's favorite expression about "Getting your ducks in a row!" - now part of the very artwork on these pages; and to all who suffered the oral versions of these
tales and others yet unrecorded, for years before some at least got set down here. Lastly, very special thanks are
due Valerie Bedewitz, whose creative "virtual" cyberbook layout
is to me, far more "real" than many hardcover editions..

NB: If your window shows two "page gutters" - left and right - with perhaps text running down into them - just narrow your window some till the righthand gutter disappears. Type will adjust automatically. (Some browsers show an extra wide span to pages...).
