The
view is an elevated look at the NE quadrant of the basin ring. The
basin arc swings down from middle top to the lower left
corner. One of the basins near the middle of the picture has
an in situ marine whelk shell in it. Other basins
contain stone fragments and cobbles: the elliptical basin near
bottom center with the solitary stone is the “Eyeball Stone”
described earlier. Above it is the dark backhoe trench scar,
scraped into the limestone surface by construction activities fifty
years ago. The footing wall and scale board and a Unit under
excavation are visible upper left. A shovel leans against the
surrounding embankment. Nearby are two buckets (for scale,
they are made from tiny toothspaste tube caps!). A
rocker sifter is just visible at top of the bank – as are the lush
weeds which everywhere overran it. |
