The transit is made from toothpicks, has both a sighting barrel and a striding level cut from tiny wire brads, and even a plumb bob (not visible here – a thread  with just the tip of a 6-penny nail clipped off and glued to end for the “bob!”)   You can see beneath the surface of the water-filled holes (lower left) that there are cobbles on the bottom of the basins!  At upper right, is a pile of whelk fragments excavators have run across during midden removal, and temporarily discarded here.  The Unit remaining is being step-excavated: note the tiny trowel, dustpan and whiskbroom.

The green paper clip is life size and for scale.
