Listen...

Once I had the CCC PR Account (Continental Can Company to you).  One of their (its?) biggest customers was A-B.  Brewers generally were bigtime customers: they consumed astronomical numbers of CCC cans!  (Ask me a a hard one next time...).

I been in most of the "better" breweries in this country, and ran the "opening" press parties in many of them.  (Many yarns - another time).

Listen!

Once (actually ...many!) times we had (another) big industry can show in Chicago.  My assignment: get your ass out there to Windy City and get with these dudes and get a story for us (CCC: my client!) in Brewers Digest or one of the big beer pubs.

Piece of cake! (Right?)

Ha-ha-ha-ha!  Be glad you are an archaeologist or statistician or finance dude..."PR" is what separates the sheep and goats in THIS world...

So I did, and it did, and the Show was on and everyone impressing everyone, etc. and one evening there was this big "party" you see - and all my client's "biggies" (Sales Managers, Can Line Bofos, Figure guys and whatnot and some Agency guys - like me out from NYC - wind up in this big party you see downtown club somewhere. At the table, among others, was "Auggie" Busch - young guy - our age back then - heir to the A-B fortune and brewery empire).

Wow!

And all that!

And Auggie drinking 1 on 1 with us and we all laughing up storm, etc. and I look him in eye and there are two eyes - right?  Like we all come with, etc.

Next time I look - there is one eye only,  and ...little American flag where other eye should be!

So I sorta lay back some and let others take the helm and I doodle with my drink and reflect what all might be going down and stuff like that and maybe I need to take pledge (drinking was one skill mandatory in this bizz and on this account) etc. and all gloomy thoughts you see, and then I look up again and Auggie got two normal eyes.

Little while later: one eye...one flag.

So later we all pile in cab and go back to our hotel (Sage's East) and I said... "Bet you never gonna believe this...,"  something like that... and guy from client says, "Believe what?  That Auggie Bussch got flag for eyeball!  Shit, Man!  Everyone know that!"

LOL!

And it was true: he had glass eye, you see, and he had it made normal like, but with tiny American flag about 90-degrees around to one side.  He knew that when he drank a bit (after all he heir to one of world's biggest brewery fortunes, so he drank his share...) that his eye muscles relaxed (this is way explained to me) and when they did, his glass eyeball rotated inward you see - and this brought the flag up to view...

When we got back to Sage's East they had to carry me in feet first.... Snoring .... and demanding all give Pledge of Allegiance to our Country's Flag.....

God Bless you Auggie Busch, wherever you are!
